Maintaining your pet’s health (“wellness”) is an important aspect of today’s veterinary medicine.  With this in mind, Derry Animal Hospital offers the following “wellness” patient services.

We follow the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) guidelines, standards and protocols to better meet the needs of our patients.  The staff consistently works with outside specialists to make sure that we are up to date on the latest technology and cutting edge procedures.

We will help you set up a lifelong plan for your family member. Derry Animal Hospital has developed programs for every stage of your pet’s life that will better meet the health needs that your loved one deserves. We follow the guidelines of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to reduce the risk of zoonotic (diseases transmitted from animals to humans) disease transmission.

Our kitten and puppy visits start off with a physical exam to make sure your new family member is in good health. A thorough examination of your puppy and kitten by your veterinarian within the first couple of weeks of ownership is very important. In addition to evaluating your new pet for any congenital or infectious diseases the veterinarian will discuss common medical problems to be aware of. The veterinarian will review your pet’s previous medical records, if any, and discuss recommendations for diagnostic testing, vaccinations, and parasite prevention. The staff will also answer any training, nutritional or behavioral questions you may have regarding your new puppy or kitten. Remember to bring a fresh stool sample to each of your puppy/kitten visits.

Derry Animal Hospital recommends spaying and neutering puppies and kittens at about 6 months of age. Early spaying and neutering prevents unwanted pregnancies and can greatly reduce or eliminate future health problems, including uterine infections, mammary cancer, prostate disease and testicular cancer.

Our wellness exams are designed to meet the needs of YOUR pet. We will discuss the vaccinations you should consider for your pet based on his/her individual lifestyle. We strongly believe that every pet is an individual and that their needs differ. Derry Animal Hospital does not have a one size fits all mentality when it comes to preventive health care protocols. We strongly recommend yearly exams for your pets to keep them healthy and happy.

Derry Animal Hospital has a special senior wellness program designed to meet the needs of our older patients. We will address our owners concerns about arthritis, dental care, proper diets and the use of blood screening tests for early disease detection. We strongly believe that age is not a disease and that we can meet the needs of every senior pet that we care for.
